New York District 2020 Virtual Leadership Training Conference

We hope you, your loved ones, and your clubs are staying safe as we weather the current COVID-19 storm.

We have been working diligently to identify alternate methods to conduct important Key Club business, recognize our members, officers, and clubs for their outstanding service during this past service year, and provide a small slice of the LTC experience.

We are excited to announce several unique features of this year’s Virtual Leadership Training Conference:

  • In order to conduct the organization’s business, we are pleased to announce that we will be conducting this year’s caucus and House of Delegates online. This session will be held on Sunday, March 29, 2020 beginning at 11:00 am. Delegates will have the opportunity to listen to and question all candidates seeking district office or international endorsement and voting will be conducted entirely online. All delegates will receive a unique log on and identification code prior to Sunday’s business session.
  • We are excited to announce our “virtual LTC” website which can be accessed here. The site features several key aspects of our conference program – our virtual conference program, election information (including candidate bios and introductory videos), award recognition, inspirational keynote and year-in-review videos, and our 2019-2020 Governor’s Farewell Address.
  • We are also pleased to announce that several workshops planned for LTC will now be offered via webinar in the coming days. Our virtual site will detail the dates/times for each live workshop, and a recording of each webinar will subsequently be posted and available for future viewing at your leisure.

Finally, we are still working diligently with our vendors and will process refunds to the extent possible as soon as those negotiations are completed. We thank you for your patience.

Although it was for the greater good, we are all nonetheless disappointed that LTC 2020 had to be cancelled. We hope that this small, virtual sampling of our Leadership Training Conference experience will encourage and inspire you to join us next year when we return with LTC 2021!

Sincerely,
New York District Key Club

Melissa Ruiz

Melissa Ruiz, MSW began her career in higher education in Conferences and Events, before transitioning into Residence Life and then Student Life and Academic Advising. She jokingly says there isn’t a job in Student Affairs she hasn’t done yet. She obtained her Master of Social Work degree from Rutgers University, along with a certification in Gerontology and was a John A. Hartford Foundation Fellow.

Before college, Melissa was a competitive dancer, trained in tap, jazz, ballet, lyrical and hip-hop. At the ripe age of 16, she went on tour with some of the country’s greatest dancers and choreographers through Dance America. Melissa’s talent also took her to the Miss New Jersey stage, where she placed first runner-up. Through her time in pageants, she combined her love of dance and advocacy for older adults by performing at nursing homes, coordinating fundraisers and educating people about Alzheimer’s Disease. After her grandmother was diagnosed, Melissa made it her goal to spread awareness and raise funds for the treatment and ultimate cure of the disease.

Melissa is part of a facilitation team at Swift Kick that has been named the #1 APCA leadership program 5 years and has already worked with over 650 schools and corporations in almost every state and worldwide. She also co-authored the Amazon.com best-selling book “First Year Student to First Year Success.”
